History of hunt talk?

Wow, moosie must be actually working or can't remember how the site started. No post from him yet. ummmmmmm.......

HAHA.. My boy O-Town has been reading every day and told me this morning I need to Chime in. I have a lot going on right now but I'll chime in real soon. Work is gonig good and keping me busy. If I was to talk about it all I'd take up 17 gigs of band width or write a book that would make GONE WITH THE WIND look like a short story. It is Book worthy though.

I do remember one time I was fed up with the site 3 or so years after it got started and the owner of 24hour hunting website told me not to shut it down because he didn't want the Jerry Springer Show to show up on his forum.

I'll get back to you on the dawn of time startup, but I love you guys.... Well, some of you guys ;)

Any chance of getting the 'Adult Joke' section back ? Gave a guy something to look forward too after a long week ! ;)

I originally signed up back in 2004 and was known as fowladdict. DelW and Moosie got tired of me for some reason and decided I wasn't welcome anymore. I fooled them though and came back as fowladdict1. It has been a great site and because of this site my desire to hunt is stronger than it ever was.

Look forward to the Moosified version of Hunt Talk's history. Don't know how - though ya gotta add pics! If war and peace had pics - I might have made it beyond page 2... :D

Not surprised you fooled em with that new nickname:D Moosie ain't so bright no how:p

I don't quite remember how I came across here, i was on hunting.net, and some other sight and the large crowd places were just not as "personal" for a lack of other words. I liked this place as it was smaller, but that is changing rapidly and so far it has still remained "personal".
I remember some pretty funny posters that came and went. quite one and her hubby was very entertaining in a soap opera kind of way. That woman could not type, and if you saw any of her posts you would never make fun of Moosies spelling.

WOW, where to begin?!?! You better grab the popcorn for this story.

I’ll start out by saying I’ve always chased the Almighty $. In the late 90’s I thought about investing in an Online Website. I thought if I wasn’t “hands on” with a website idea my buddies had locally I could get away with it. After investing some money and having a talk with the wife about it, she quickly killed that idea. I did learn though I wanted to tap into a new market and the internet was the way to go, just not a website that could harm my marriage *smile*.

I went to EZboards and started my free forums. Set up a couple of topics and sections and figured people would come pouring in. And there I was, talking to myself. Kind of sucked.

I looked online for hunting info and actually found “huntinfo” and their forums. They were one of the founders I would think f the hunting forums. I started reading it and thought it was a great way to get information from hunters and share info. At that time, I really only wanted to get info, I didn’t have that much to share. I hadn’t killed much nor traveled much but new I was on the verge of doing so.

The key posters at that time were BCat, Deer Slayer, Yooper, and a few others. All freaks of nature but both I fell in love with instantly. They acted like they were the best of friends for Years and years. I was to find out they had just met. I figured if I could befriend a few guys they’d come over to my site and I’d grow it. But how do you Locals from their home?

I started posting and there was a lot of ganging up on dumb posters (Not much different than it is now I guess). Elky, with his elk hunting tactics with home made Carpet and yarn camo made me laugh and put me over the edge for Hours on end. Then they were going to have a “meeting”…. A “gathering” of sort. And rightfully so was called “the gathering”. The people involved called themselves “the Coalition”.

There was a gift to be given and I gave $100 Blindly over the net for the gift. I had so much fun posting I figured even if nothing came out of it the entertainment was worth $100.

I posted a picture of a hunt I went on and I took a Bath in the stream. I covered my “junk” with a frying pan….. OK, It was more of a Cup saucer but I was laughing my Arse off. Some guys jumped on the banwagon of calling me a jerk, shameless, and even so far as a child molester. I was floored. Who are these A-holes that think they know me. The picture was in fun !!!

The Coalition came to my rescue and a tighter bond was made. Yah, internet friends I never met. Anyone that knows me knows I had hundreds of friends anyways so what’s this obsession with these internet freaks ?!?!

When I registered on that site I wanted to be “elkaholic”. I owned elkaholic.com and had started uploading my hunts online to share with friends. It was an early version of “blogging”. That was the bizz I should have got into.. hehe.

Alas when I registered there elkaholic was taken. Crap. How about deer hunter, nope ! Elk slayer ? Critter getter ? Nope ! Nope ! Elk hunter ? Nope ! Moose Hunter… Yep, Hummm, not the name I wanted but it could work.

“Moose Hunter” turned into “Moose Man” and Deer Slayer “DS” coined the phrase “Moosie”. I liked Moosie better so when I started the EZ boards forum I kept Moosie and have been Moosie ever since.

The owner of that site got tiered of us “running it”. We literally took over the board by posting topics and bumping topics and some mornings I’d post till 2AM and the East coast morning crew came in and took over and posted. So people were getting Banned. OOPS !!!

The “coalition” was going to move over to another site and by some luck (or curse) I got them talked into coming over to my cheesy site. I promised no censorship like the last place and it was on like popcorn !!!

About 30-40 people made the initial shift. People started adding on and some people left. It was the normal progression of a website or business starting from scratch.

I worked hard to answer posts and be funny. I’d go out to other forums and come in like a whirlwind. I tried to never mention HuntTalk.com but people there would say things like “You are just trying to get people over to HuntTalk.com”. Seriously, what is better advertisement ?!?!

I then had HuntandLodge.com. I tried to get lodging and hunting links to hook people up traveling and tried to get some sponsors and banner advertising and such. What a frigging headache !!! I had bunches of time into stuff with a few bucks back. Not worth it for me.
We had a lot of fun together and set up group hunts. We did a Bear hunt in Canada and a “game farm” (Ok, Might be a dirty word to some) hunt in Texas. The pictures and stories were always the reason I kept it going. Although I realizes it had no Money making chance in my hands of ownership.

We also Upgraded to the UBB platform to the new look and I started to pay for it with my own cash. It was less random advertising and more control over the board. DelW was the big hitter behind the scenes on the forums. I just paid the bills. Problem was, with upgrades and internet servers and such I was shelling out $1,500 a year or more some years.

SO, I thought about having donations and putting together flyers. I was hoping to make the flyers into a small magazine about the average hunter. Kind of like Big Fin did about his hunting show. Only difference was he had recourses and I was going broke. *sigh*
Certain people always stood up to the plate to help out. Others told me to piss off because the info was free. It’s all good. To each their own. A couple years ago I went from keeping thousands of dollars of cash under my floorboards of my truck to being A$$ broke. It’s hard to pay out that kind of money when you are losing your home…………

I bought and sold houses and it went Belly up. I started an Engineering firm and the economy tanked. I went from Hunting Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Alaska for Brown then Kodiak, California, Colorado, New Mexico to….. Well, 2 years ago I was trying to feed the family. Once again some people wanted to step up to the plate to help but I knew my time was over. I made a comment on Hunttalk and Big Fin sent me a PM asking if I wanted to dump it. That’s when I heard he was doing the show. I figured he would be the right person to take it over and I always loved his Diplomacy and great attitude. We talked back and forth and I do have to say his lawyers have NO FRIGGING sense of humor…. I’ll leave it at that, but I transferred everything into his name.

Since then he has had the resources to keep the Viagra/Etc. spamming idiots and hackers off the site and keep the same direction I always wanted it to go. He doesn’t have a heavy hand in silencing people so it’s been better than I thought.

I’ve made thousands of friends over the years and have hunter with dozens or more from here. It’s been part of my life for over a decade and hopefully many more.

I’m back on my feet building my empire one day at a time and one brick at a time instead of by the truckload. You can expect the ongoing stories and hunting info from me and the In your face sarcasm I’ve always had. I’ll always back Randy up with anything he needs as well as the old timers and new comers. You’re ALL my extended family.

And that, my friends………. Is the story in a nut shell ;)

Anyone remember an incident with a daughter’s hero shot and a possible tasteless comment on Huntinfo? That guy was pissed. That place was never that same after that.

The dad named Idaho Ron ? The Yetti making the comment ? Saying he'd like to mount that and the elk wasn't bad either... ?? Nope, Not a clue what yer talking about...

I remember that Huntinfo guy going on a elk hunt in Southern COlorado. Posted up his pictures and he wore knee high rubber boots the entire hunt:D

I liked Moosie better so when I started the EZ boards forum I kept Moosie and have been Moosie ever since.

Bullchit...there was a time you were trying to have multiple personalities Grand Poopa. :)

Moosie,
Thanks for taking the time to do your part of the story. Speaking for myself, who is a noob compared to you old timers it is good to hear the history of things like this. Crazy as it is, good to hear.

Man- sounds like I missed some good times back then, glad to be here now atleast. Thanks for sharing the history Moosie, and thanks Big Fin for moving it forward, looks like this thing is on a roll.

I've enjoyed Moosie's forays on other sites. You could literally read the bp rate of the guys he was fuggin with.

Thanks for the time writing up the history, Moosie! Always took you as a genuine "witty" guy!

Glad BFin has held a true course for personal approach. Deffinately enjoy this site! One day - maybe a hunt talk gathering would be great! Get a conference room with some form of hunt talk auction - haha! BAYED and a half at some hotel... Would be interesting.

If you're going to bring it up, do it right... I was gonig to be PAPPA Moose. I have the Grand Poopa title right under my name. You should call me DADDY like your kids do Fowl... ;)

I would seriously be laughing so hard some times.... My wife would pry me away. I would have to say back in the day I had more AS$ kicking threats then most. People always said I hid behind the keyboard ...excet, I'd post my phone number, adress and location. Besides the one time the guy from MonsterMulies called my house after tracking me down for telling him to "Quit yer Sniveling" because he didn't draw a tag, that was the closest I've ever came to harm.... well, besides the time BCat was driving through town and wanted to kill me for something or other ;)

I wish I was 1/2 as witty as Greenhorn. He's been my "witty" IDOL since the dawn of time. No so impressed with the game he shoots but is funny as Heck on the forums. ;)

We're going to have a BOISE Hunttalk Gathering of sorts the later part of next month so the rumor is told. Not sure all the ins and outs of it yet but should be fun to meet a few people.

Hey BIG "O". So, My name is Oscar and a lot of People call me Big "O". So you were on my favorites list since you signed up :D

Greeny, How's the Yetti and fuggingoodhunter ? I haven't heard much from either since I Accidentally bangged their heads together at the bar and that one 35 YO Body builder wanted an A$$ Whooping on me and you saved my life.......

.... I Almost posted the PAN PICTURE ... but I'd hate to make Big Fin edit a post and make him look bad when I said he wouldn't ;)

...Hehe
