Anyone out there using headlamps to hike
in the dark?I've always used a mini mag light which has worked fine, but I'm thinking
a nice headlamp setup would be even better.
Any advice including the brand would be great.

Spotted Owl, there are alot on the market, but the PETZL brands are my favorite , they offer several models, all having diff uses , but my favorite is the TIKA, it's a 3 bulb
LED almost weighs nothing, and casts a beam that is amazing for it's size, check any outdoor catalog, they should have em, if not go to BACKPACKER.COM and use the gear finder.
h2m ;) ;)

I concur totally. I have a couple of them and I'll never hunt/fish/camp/whatever without one and I'll never go back to drooling all over a flashlight again.

I have a Petzl Mini, single bulb 2 AA batts (about $20) and a two bulb model(I forgot the name) with a detachable battery pack on a cable so I can put it inside my clothes. I use this one for winter trips(cold batteries die faster)

Definitely get one

Thanks guys.

I just checked out several at REI today while
in Seattle. I like the mini Petzal. I remeber
a couple years ago on a mtn goat hunt. We had
to hike out 8 miles in the dark. My hand went
numb holding my stinking mini mag. Never
again!!
