Thru a lot of reading and research, I hear that this unit is a sea of orange during the rifle seasons. Is this true if you are more than 2 miles from the roads? Is it less crowded during the week when compared to weekends?

It is the most-hunted elk unit in the state, but it is a big unit. There will be a lot of hunters. You can reduce that somewhat by getting away, but it is hard to get 2 miles from a road in some areas. In general, this will mean packing anything you kill UP out of a canyon, so be prepared for that. Hunting pressure in all units decreases throughout the season. I recommend that if people cannot hunt the entire season, hunt the end rather than the beginning. If it is a 9 day season, the second weekend will be nothing compared to the first.

Thanks Oak. I will be there for the entire 3rd rifle season. I'm in good shape and will be prepared to pack one out if I get the opportunity.
