Carry a spare release in the field?

I’m just curious how many of you carry a spare release with you into the field?

Always have a second one in my pack. I’ve broke a spring in my primary release before while out hunting and also forgot it at camp before

Well now I'm starting to think I might be a fool!

Never carry one, usually have an extra back in my case. Never had an issue with one breaking so it never crossed my mind to be honest.


For a long time I didn't even own two

Keep my spare in my bow case (at camp/truck) along with extra arrows, tools, etc. I don’t take it into the back country though.

I carry a cheaper release in my pack as a backup.

In 2020 while chasing a bugling bull, I looked down at my wrist and my primary release was 50% gone, one of the set screws must have fell out. I pulled out my backup release, and 2 hours later I got in on that herd and killed a 6 point bull with my backup release. I won’t go without one

I dont even own a spare! With wrist strap type i use aint much to brake or loose, but only been bowhunting with a release for 35 years.

Absolutely. Same reason why I carry two headlamps, two lighters, two pairs of socks, etc. You just never know.

Spare release, headlamp, boot lace, and waist belt buckle for my pack. All items are very light and would all suck to go without.

I’m dialing in a spare bow for my Utah hunt this fall. Can’t think of a more terrible way to have to bail on a long awaited hunting trip.

I would 100% do the same with that tag. Probably use it as an excuse to get a brand new one.
