A MT Moose update

Send one of those little guys on over to my unit! I can't buy a moose sighting. Hope you find a dandy.

Well, I suspect many are awaiting for me to post a picture of a dead moose:) And I will, as soon as I find the right one.

Until then, you have to put up with looking at the ones I have been passing on.

And then it happens.............I'm hitting the area where my target bull was last spotted. I go around the corner of this old logging road and here he is walking to me at 50 yards.....At least I think its him....but not sure. So I go for the binos instead of the bow or gun and get the glass on him. Dang nice.......for sure over 40" wide, like maybe 44+, yep forks on both brows, 7-9 points per side, decent paddles..........and dead to rights.

And I let him go!.......

There is an extremely high likelihood that I will not find a bigger moose this year than that in my unit. But I guess we will all see if that is the case or not...........;)My buddy that was with me clearly thinks I have lost my mind. He might be right, and the next time, if there is a next time, the outcome with that bull may be different.

You are certainly getting all you can out of your moose hunt. I wish I would have been a little more picky when I had my tag, not because I think I would have gotten a bigger bull, but because I ended the experience so fast.

So you not only passed up, what sounds like a good moose, but one that was standing in a road??:eek: You know you'll end up shooting one in a hell hole now as you've angered the "Luck" gods... :p

Well Matt, your pictures are getting me pretty excited. Looking forward to being on the mountain next month chasing moose too. After seeing all your pictures I decided to take my bow also. It would be amazing to get one with a bow. And by the way, I am not passing up anything over 40 inches with good palms & points with double brow tines. Hope you have a good one on the ground before I get there.
Bill

Well, another morning down and no shooters. I'm actually beginning to wonder if the moose I'm looking for even exists:) Nonetheless, its tough to beat a day of seeing moose. 8 of those buggers today with two new bulls. I'm beginning to think I know the moose here better than the biologists:)LOL

You will know when you find the right one. Hope you are having lots of fun.

You have certainly found a "honey hole" for moose. The area you are hunting seems infested with them. I'm enjoying your thread and you are definitely getting your money's worth out of this hunt.

Matt, put your face here

Enjoying the post and moose hunt CG, good to hear your locating new bulls, gives you hope that what your looking for is in the unit...somewhere!

Thanks for sharing, this is a awesome thread! Sure hope you find your dream bull!

So with all these young moose you are seeing do you think there will be some slammer moose in that area in a few years or will most of them not live that long?
