Well, I finally drew a Wyoming tag. This will be my fifth elk hunt, but going to try with a rifle rather than CO OTC archery this go round. Curious on thoughts on what the elk will be feeding on in Southwest WY at the beginning of general rifle season. The unit were looking at doesn't have burns, so not sure how much that will hurt us.

Gonna have to get the shovel out to see any brown grass right now. I can probably tell you the Latin and common names of 90+% of the grasses and forbs in SW Wyoming by sight but that's not really what's going to find you elk. SW WY is a big area...are you thinking about mountain or foothill units in general? Feel free to PM, I'd be happy to give you some general ideas.
