Well, dang. I’m a little disappointed after sitting in airport hell all day to check in and see this normally convivial community descending to name calling and personal attacks over non-relevant subjects. The annoying thing about this is that I have worked for 27 years to put myself into a position where I can pay for debt forgiveness for other peoples college loans but I can’t afford helping my own kids go to college.

Over 70% of my property taxes fund public schools even though I send my children to a private school. No vouchers offered to help with their tuition.

Although, I am thankful for the Covid stimulus check which I used as earnest money to buy my property which has tripled in value since I bought it.

Some folks are gonna use this boost wisely and some are gonna squander it. The break down of who does what is going to be more closely connected to character than education or degrees and I bet the financial trajectory of an individual’s life will track the same.

We need folks with advanced education for a lot of jobs that benefit society. Those individuals who pursue a vocation that requires an expensive education have hopefully made an educated investment in themselves anticipating a good return on investment.

Plenty of folks pursue education without a clear path to applying that education in their careers. I have two guys installing ductwork on a house right now. Both are making the same money as tinners even though one has a degree and majored in chemistry.

Neither one of my boys knows what they want to do professionally yet or if they want to get a degree. I’m not too concerned about what they choose. I’m just pretty proud of them for tackling this project and getting it to this stage as their summer jobs instead of working part time at entry level jobs with little responsibility. I don’t think I would have had the gumption or know how when I was 15 and 17 to do what they did.

I worked my way through college to avoid debt. My sons all ended out with no debt after college, by their own work, and my expense. So I'm not a fan of student loan forgiveness. However, compared to the welfare programs for large corporations and the way the billionaires cheat on their taxes, this debt forgiveness for broke graduates won't keep me up at night

A way to avoid student debt is to make college free, and make people earn the right to attend and get it free. College shouldn't be just for any fool that wants to hang out and party while attending basic math and basic English classes.
