Tire chains?

Tire chains-You don't need them until you need them.

Everyone is concerned about tire chains but what tires are on your rig? Our F150 has load range D's and our F250 runs on load range E tires. This is granite country and the rocks can be brutal on tire sidewalls. Highway all terrain tires might not last if you must get into the rough stuff.

When the roads are bad, I usually hunt from the highway or interstate.

I had to chain up one day last year going across 70. It seems WYDOT decided to sleep in that day.

I've been looking into an option for my Chevy pickup that says that you can't use chains on the front tires.

Came across this on youtube, just looping some rope through the rims.

This would have worked for me in the pinch I got in last year in Montana. Not a permanent solution but I always have some rope and could have really helped me out. The issue was ice under some light snow and I think this would have worked.

The other option is going with these and hoping that I don't have any clearance issues.

Anyone used the Z cable "chains" on the front wheels of a chevy pickup?

Are the chains for mud, snow, or both? I didn't know there was something else to think about for a western trip.

A word of caution, don't buy cheap chains or light weight cable. They will break and cause significant damage before you get stopped or worse rip a break line off and leave you worse off than being stuck!!!
If you have the coin buy Pewag, best on the market.
I would recommend square link. Best combination of wear and traction.

We have cold weather and precip coming in over the next 2 weeks so those chains might come into play. Any time they predict 30's down into 20's at night with precip chance count on snow somewhere in the state. Hunting weather is on the way.
