Sometimes you get what you need, not what you want

There are a lot of hunters that don't even end the season with an opportunity, so congrats on taking advantage of the situation and on the success.

Congrats on a successful hunt that put meat in the freezer. Try to ignore the "horn porn" that makes a hunter wonder if they are less of a hunter if they do not fill a tag with a huge beast. You hustled to fill your tag. You tracked down and made an ethical shot on a wild animal in their ecosystem where you are an intruder that sets off alerts and alarms through you movement, sound and scent.

Success is how you define it. I fill about 50% of my tags and have never been on an unsuccessful hunt. I have stared up at the milky way and watched geese fly below me as I hike along a high mountain ridge. I have had elk walk within 10 feet of me. I have walked on glaciers. I have hiked in the shadeless heat of west Texas. Amazing memories. Have hunted in over 20 states. Along the way I have shot animals with rifle, bow and muzzleloader. Some were representative animals and some were quite nice.

Look forward to reading about your future adventures. Safe travels.
