Matt Rinella knocking it outta the park

To side with Matt Rinella and say yeah don't post hunting pics and don't influence anyone else to hunt is a really weird position to take.
I still post pics of big game but I try to make sure the background is unrecognizable.

I hunt birds a lot. I used to be active on one of the larger upland bird forums. It turned into a giant hotspotting forum. At first I stopped adding pics and eventually dropped off. Lots of areas ruined by vocal lifestyle hunters who liked to take pics and post his great results. He absolutely ruined one area after a few years just by showing his favorite dinner five miles from camp.

I’d have to agree with Matt.

Matt promotes the traditional and organic promotion of hunting such as via taking friends and family.
Is he really against hunting shows? I grew up watching hunting and fishing shows like Babe Winkelman, and others.

I consume hunting and fishing content. So does every person on this site. We share pictures and stories. That's against his beliefs right?

Food for thought .......

Would any of us have even known about or cared about what Matt had to say if not for the fact that he was Stevens brother?
If he cares to admit it or not, he got his initial notoriety being present around his brothers fame and good fortune, and the stuff he talks sh#t about.

It's clearly a different level.

But define what an influencer does.

I don’t think our disagreement is about the definition of what an “influencer” is. I think it’s that they are not all the same, not in motivations, intentions, or integrity.

In terms of policing online influencers, do you suggest going to their house to voice your concerns/complaints? I don’t think that would go over well. I think going to their platform or other public facing platforms and voicing those concerns is absolutely appropriate. Especially when there is absolute proof that they try and form their own narrative about certain events that are angering and unfair to other hunters.

Cam Hanes making references to socialism is especially rich. Equality of opportunity and democratic management is not only fundamental to the NA model, but also to this country. It is the equality of outcome that generally is where socialism/communism is put into question. I don’t see anyone here advocating for equality of outcome in hunting, just fair opportunities.

My problem is that the people I mention above are exploiting the system with out of touch takes on the hunting community, advocating for unfair opportunity, getting away with breaking laws with nothing more than a slap on the wrist, and many other things that are unfair and/or selfish. Yet, since they are in the public eye, they are seen as the voices and representatives for the hunting community. So when they F up, I damn sure hope we continue to call them out and hammer them on public forums.

Well hell that sure make me an influencer just like Cam! insert eye roll

Hunting TV
-Boycott hunting TV and other forms of hunting entertainment. It leads to
the commodification of wildlife and hunting access.
-Avoid (to the extent possible) companies that use hunting TV and social media
influencers to sell products.

Social Media
-Disincentivize (unfollow) hunters that display dead and dying animals to
strangers on social media.

Hunt Talk is social media, you're posting pics of dead animals. Matt is strongly against that... Do you not see the hypocrisy?

This forum runs off of all the things you're supposed to be boycotting as a supporter of Matt. Randy is an influencer, there are dozens of companies and products being advertised within his videos and on this site. 100s of members share pics of animals and stories here. This is hunting media. We're all here for a reason... Matt would delete this website along with anything related to hunting if he could.

There’s plenty of meme pages that call out the shit influencers do, one of the things that makes Matt different is he doesn’t feel the need to be anonymous when doing it

I agree with a lot of it. They definitely don't all share motives, or integrity. All we can do is choose to support ones that align with our moral values. I would assume that's why a lot of us are on this website. We can relate to Randy and most members here.

I think time spent complaining and posting pictures of these people we disagree with would work better in a different setting. It would be different if Cam or the Bowmars were members here and frequented the forum, but I don't think they are. It would be best to go to YouTube or Instagram where they are posting and checking and commenting there.

I completely agree that everyone needs to be held accountable for illegal actions and serious F-ups. Everyone should share the same fear of making a mistake and loosing their hunting rights/gear because of it, influencer or not. I just feel like everyone's energy would be a lot better spent posting these things to their comment section. Not necessarily somewhere like Hunt Talk where they will likely never see it.

Yeah I think this is lower on the totem pole of stuff he cares about. Good thing people can take ideas they like and throw away what they don’t.

Posting on an online brag board to only hunters is not equivalent to posting videos on YouTube for the world to see.

There’s been a lot more self enforcing here of people keeping unit names out of posts, etc.

You know anyone can come to this website right? And anyone can post to youtube also?

Supporting someone because of one position they have is risky business. It's like supporting a politician just because they said they're going to try and lower gas prices...

I know who Randy Newberg is. He seems like a really nice guy. I don't know anything about any of the other guys being bitched about in this thread and I think my life is somehow better because of that.
It is... Keep it that way! Don't support or talk about the morons. It only makes them more popular the more times their names come up.
