As some of you know I was lucky enough to draw an Arkansas elk tag this past year. I made good friends with the US forest service manager. Not long ago He sent me a trail camera photo from the elk I shot. The photo was from 2012. Our best guess was the elk was at least 9 years old. What do you guys think. The date on the photo is correct

Congrats on the bull! Hunting a free range, public land elk in AR is a pretty awesome, rare experience. It's too bad they aren't going forward with the plan to bring elk back to the Ouachitas.
 
That's a stud bull! Congrats! How was the meat on such an old bull?

I'm not sure the exact poundage of meat. I know that he filled up a 160, 75 and 65 qt yeti with boned out meat. My and my fathers deep freezers were filled up with elk meat.
 
Let’s just say when I cook ground meat inside I am brought back to cleaning a rutting bull. Haha. And the steaks can be a little chewy. But we still eat elk once a week.
