Gun Regulation Survey

Answers are below but come with conditional caveats. Mainly, I can change my answer on one if another number ("higher level") was implemented. I found I can argue both sids of a lot of these pretty strongly, but they end up being tied to others.

For me they were all pretty simple black and white except #18 - I waffle on this one.

Ditto.

7. NO, even intra-family transfers should be subject to "universal background checks"? However, if you knowingly transfer to a family member who is excluded from gun ownership you're ass should be in a whole lot of trouble.
8. NO, even lending weapons between friends/family at a range or while hunting should be subject to prior "universal background checks"?
9. NO, if there is a delay in background check results should the current 3 day "free pass" rule be extended to 14 days? It should not even take 3 days with today's tech. Fix the problem.

I support universal background checks.
I think you should have to be 21 to purchase/own high capacity semi-auto rifles just like handguns.
I think that owning firearms comes with the responsabilty of safely keeping them. If you have people in your household/cirlce that should not have access to them due to age, mental health or law and you should be required to take proper/reasonable precautions to bar their access. I believe failure to do so should lead to criminal/civil penalties.

I tried to keep caveats/explanations to a minimum. As expected, answers generally would require some qualification.

0. YES, the government may limit my access to military weapons such as hand grenades, rocket launchers, tanks, Apache helicopters, etc.
1. NO, current limits on automatic weapons should remain in place?
2. NO, current persons ineligible to possess firearms should remain in place? [Caveat being major criminal justice reform; i.e. if we're going to let someone walk among us then they should have the same rights as others. I'm sure there would need to be some exceptions but generally narrow in scope]
3. YES, current dealer background check rules should remain in place?
4. NO, current restricted areas, such as courts and schools should remain in place? [very big differences in what constitutes a "restricted area" state by state, but I will answer according to my own state and say that more local discretion should be allowed]
5. NO, the current approach to background checks should be extended to cover all transfers between non-family members ("universal background checks")?
6. NO, we should have a mandatory federal gun owner's registry to further enable "universal background checks"?
7. NO, even intra-family transfers should be subject to "universal background checks"?

19. NO, in locations where the presence of minors is common or foreseeable, all firearms must be stored in a secure manner at all times when not immediately in one's possession? [unless you consider punitive measures for negligent injuries to or unlawful usage by said minors to constitute a "yes" to this question; I just don't agree that there should be a "tack-on" charge for this]
20. NO, all new firearms should be required to incorporate "smart gun lockouts" by 2030?

OK. Poaching off of @MTLabrador's answers, and with the caveat that I'm only talking about the Federal side of firearms regulations, as I firmly believe that the states should retain the right to make most of these decisions for themselves, because I am a state's right's kind of guy, so long as it follows the Constitution of the United States of America.

0. YES , the government may limit my access to military weapons such as handgrenades, rocket launchers, tanks, Apache helicopters, etc.

4. YES , current restricted areas, such as courts and schools should remain in place?
5. QUALIFIED NO the current approach to background checks should be extended to cover all transfers between non-family members ("universal background checks")? - I support closing the gunshow loophole, but am not in favor of mandating background checks on all F-T-F transactions. Family & Friends shouldn't have to go through the check, and the same for gifts. We already have strawman laws on the books at the federal level - enforce those first, but close the gunshow loophole, as that is just a traveling carnival of gun sales.
6. NO, we should have a mandatory federal gun owner's registry to further enable "universal background checks"?
7. NO, even intra-family transfers should be subject to "universal background checks"?
8. NO, even lending weapons between friends/family at a range or while hunting should be subject to prior "universal background checks"?
9. ??? , if there is a delay in background check results should the current 3 day "free pass" rule be extended to 14 days? - Not familiar with this.
10. YES, in addition to our existing civil commitment laws, should there be additional "red flag" laws allowing for pre-adjudicated confiscation of firearms? So long as due process is afforded, absolutely.
11. NO, should all firearm purchases be subject to a 7 or 14 day waiting period?

21. QUALIFIED YES, the firearms industry should be civilly liable for the harm caused by the unlawful use of their products by their customers? - But only if it is proven that their marketing & other media is designed to enflame the emotions or create an unsafe environment, ala tobacco liability.
22. NO, there should be a wholesale repeal of "stand your ground" laws? - This is a state's rights issue.
23. YES, regulation should further limit parts or modifications, such as bump stocks or 80% lowers that are primarily sold to avoid other gun control regulations?

Again, as thorough as this list is, it discounts the role that 50 individual states and however many territories & protectorates the United States has. The state is the proper venue for discussion about a lot of these issues, which is why my answers are what they are. The federal gov't has no right to usurp the state in concealed carry laws, as each state can make decisions for themselves, rather than an overbearing federal gov't. Similar to storage issues. Wyoming has far different gun issues than suburban Chicago. There is no reason for Wyoming to follow Illinois' lead on gun issues unless their legislators & voters say so.
