Colorado Elk hunt

I would like to go on a Colorado elk hunt. DIY. Im in Utah and want a good hunt, NO BS.
Western Colorado preferred as its close to home and im not made of money. Im not looking for a huge bull, just a fun hunt with good success.

Wish I could offer some advice, but I am working on my first trip. I am sure there are some on here that can offer suggestions.

For those who have the experience .... What type of info might you be looking for? Good locations? Rifle or bow?

Try a Muzzleloader hunt. September hunting can be a lot of fun.

Randy has made some videos of OYO western CO elk hunts. Thats a great start. Colorado has a great website for planning a hunt. Look at some units that have decent success rates & then start pouring over maps. Look for public land access.

Everyone knows all the elk in Colorado migrated to Wyoming and New Mexico

As mentioned above the CPW hunt planner service is a good place to start. Also, pour over the statistics on the CPW website. Lots of good public land to use

Coming from Utah I would imagine the main access is going to be I-70. I would look at the roadless areas in units 41 and 421.
