CO 161 Independence Mountain 1st rifle

Anyone have any intel on Independence Mountain during first rifle as to whether it is holding much elk? I am wondering if they are still all up in the Routt Natl Forest at that point in the season, especially with as warm as it has been. Just seens there are so few spots in Indep. Mt area that are farther than a mile it might not be worth looking there. Just trying to get any last minute intel I can on my e-scouting before I have to put in for my tag. Thanks.

161 is an OTC archery unit that gets a lot of pressure. My experience is that the majority of elk are low on the private land or up high in the wilderness area. You may be able to find elk on Independence Mnt during 1st rifle but I'd be looking to get away from the bulk of the pressure.
