log splitter
You are a Montanan? If you are cutting your own fir and larch, it splits nice once it is dry, axe, maul, wedges, will do and be kinda fun hehe if you cut anything other than fir, larch, lodgepole, spruce, then you will want a splitter. oz- bigozzie

Any wolf killing?
Wolves were real active week after thanksgiving, howling and lots of tracks. Got one on trail camera. But have not been back since to check on things. It may be wise to have some fear of them but as stated I think it is not supported by any statistics. When People come visit our remote cabin, they always want to go for a hike. The trail camera on the firewood stack in front of the cabin has taken pictures of bobcat, mt. lion, bear, coyote...- bigozzie

Ground shooting grouse
definitely how we were raised. Drive the roads dad looked for a deer while I shot heads off the grouse with my .22. had to bribe grandpa into going with us so I could shoot his limit too. otherwise I looked greedy. hehehe. No better upbringing sacrificing limit for the underage family...- bigozzie

I have been frightened by wolves, but it was an irrational fear. After living near wolves I am quick to say they are difficult to see even when you are trying. road flare tinder is less important, hate looking for good tinder when it is wet or frozen, Just grab a flare and light whatever you can find, it will thaw it, dry it and burn it. Best place to live in WY MT ID?
A big difference in Western Montana is Gray winters, we are cloudy most all of the winter. Those who have lived in states with sunny winters, get depressed mid way through winter the days are short and gray. oz- bigozzie
