    Eld-x bullets for elk?

I used the 178gr eldx from my 308 last year and had great results on the antelope, deer, and elk killed. Muzzle velocity was 2775fps and kills were on the close side at 120 yards & on the far said at 507. Cow elk was at 240 took one in the chest and fell down in second. Also killed a cow elk...

    2018 Muzzleloader Buck

I put in for a muzzleloader only tag this year with a good friend of mine that has never drawn a buck tag. The odds of getting this particular tag are very good and we both drew. I have been hunting this area for several years for various animals with different weapons so I have a pretty good...

How do you use your Antelope Meat???

The only piece of meat that we eat is the tenderloins. I make back straps into whole muscle jerky. I usually brine the sirloin roasts and make them into hams. Everything else gets ground up for various sausages. Chorizo and merguez are my favorite use of antelope.

    Tripod of choice?

My main purpose would be for binos, I don't actually own a spotting scope. Where I hunt in mountains it's open enough to glass but thick enough that 10x binos work really well. I was looking at the vortex offerings, Summit SSP and high country. Although ebay has a handful of carbon fiber $100...

    Tripod of choice?

What does everyone like for mountain hunting? I have been using an old survey tripod retrofitted with a ball head for my range finder and binos while shooting this year and I can see I need a lightweight set for hunting this fall.

300 WSM loads with 178 gr ELD-X for Elk?

1.8000". It's not a hunting bullet by any means, very serious ELR target bullet though. I'm also at about 6200' which helps I believe a 1:9 is recommended.

300 WSM loads with 178 gr ELD-X for Elk?

Killed an elk last year with a 200gr eldx from a 300 win mag, she went down fast and didn't get back up, 362 yards. I have killed alot of stuff (including 4 elk) with the old 208 amax from my 300wsm's, the 178 eldx bullets are probably better suited. I wouldn't think twice about using them if...

ATV for Antelopes? To bring or not to bring

I have never even loaded my four wheeler up for an antelope hunt. I live in antelope country though so get to pick when I go. If I were traveling to hunt and had the room I would probably bring one.

    Antelope meat recipes?

I smoked the sirloin roast tonight, it was in the brine for 6 days, dried in the fridge for a day, in apple wood smoke at 200 degrees for 2 hours, and in the oven covered at 225 degrees for about an hour, internal temp finished at 160 degrees. My wife has a strong dislike for antelope meat...

    Most Important Skills?

I agree with what everyone else has already said but will add being able to take apart the animal with a knife. Learning about the gutless method, quartering, skinning, deboning, and separating the head with just a knife has been a great tool in my hunting inventory and having that ability...

    Buying gold?

I don't personally buy barrels of crude oil but I buy things that deal with it. Refining, distribution, transportation, ect. That's how I would look at gold also. Having a bar or coins would be cool but I sure couldn't tell the quality by looking at them. Just my thoughts.

    Antelope...Lets See Them!!!

2016 season was good with two does and a neat looking buck, he doesn't measure that great but I didn't have a vertical buck yet and he gave me a very good shot, he is right at 14" with 7" bases and 4 1/2" prongs. All three were shot in walk in areas here in Wyoming.

    Antelope meat recipes?

The recipe for Morton's quick tender pepperoni (summer sausage) is very good with antelope with about 10% pork shoulder, you don't have to stuff it you can just make a loaf and bake it, the quick tender cures the meat and helps maintain the shape. I made some yesterday, instead of liquid smoke...

What will you be shooting ?

Probably using my 22-250 for my doe tags not sure on my buck tag yet. The gunsmith was suppose to have my 308 built by now but I haven't seen it yet and was planning on using it. May take my grandpas 284 Winchester for my buck tag instead.

    Two American Classics

My grandpa has a small Ithaca collection, a 49 that my dad have him, a 66 buck buster 20 gauge and a 66 buck buster 12 gauge that I found at a gun show and gave him. He went alot of years with only the 20 gauge and he used it for everything from birds to deer.
