    Grouse during Elk season question

That's what I'd do if archery hunting, but I've got a rifle tag. Ever seen it have any effect on animals in the area? I've got a little walther and a box of remington cbees. They still seem pretty loud to me.

    Grouse during Elk season question

So, I was watching Randy's live podcast tonight, and he answered a question that he will shoot grouse with a rifle while elk hunting. Will the sound not scare elk or other animals out of the area? I wanted to carry something along on my hunt to take grouse. I've got a .22 pistol with low...

    Reloading question

So, I was setting up to reload some .380 and had a really odd thing happen when trying to get the seating depth set. I'm attaching a picture to show the issue. Anybody know what would cause this?

    Seek Outside Pack Question

Thanks guys! I talked with Kevin, who I think is the owner, over at Seek Outside. Seems like a great guy and graciously put up with my questions. And yeah, the difference is the Unaweep has to be run with a bag and you pack meat either inside the bag or between the bag and the talon. The...

    Seek Outside Pack Question

Hey guys, I've been looking into different brands of packs and am really liking the looks of Seek Outside. But I haven't been able to find out what the difference is between the Unaweep 4800 and the Fortress 4800. They both have the same suspension, and looks like even the same bag? Does...

    Idaho Fall Black Bear

That sounds like a good idea. Any advice on what kind of conditions to look for to locate berry patches? I've never tried finding them before.

    Idaho Fall Black Bear

I've been thinking of trying for my first bear this fall as well. In the areas around Boise, is it more spot and stalk or baiting?

    Falconry

With the Red Tail, I was hunting 2 or 3 times a week usually. Some people have the time to hunt daily, some only on the weekends. Very cool. I haven't wanted to commit to an imprint yet but the ones I have been around have been a dream. And flying an Eagle looks like so much fun. I would...

    Falconry

Hi Bighorn, in captivity, they will typically live 25 to 30 years if they stay healthy. In the wild, from what I've been told, 15 can be pretty old.

    Falconry

So, in the US, the most common birds are Red Tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, Harris' Hawks, Merlins, Cooper's Hawks, Goshawks, Prairie Falcons, Peregrine Falcons, Gyrfalcons, and Hybrids of the Peregrine and Gyrfalcon. The very traditional European falconry birds are the Common Kestrel (which...

    Winter Kill Strategies

So, here in Idaho, Mule Deer had the 2nd worst winter kill of Fawns and Does on record, and possibly mature bucks (but they aren't tracked). So, a question for more experienced hunters than me. Would knowing that there was a bad winter kill change how you hunted this season? And if so, how...

    Falconry

When trapping, you are typically using live bait like pigeons, starlings, or rats/mice depending on what type of bird you are trying to catch and what type of trapping you are doing. The most common way of trapping is bait surrounded by small nooses that catch the birds feet and toes when they...

    Falconry

So, I'm not sure if this is the right location to post this. But, when I first started posting on the forum, I mentioned that I was a falconer and some people expressed interest in seeing some photos and a knowing a bit about it. So, here it goes! I'll start off with a bit of an explanation...

    Question about locating elk

Thanks for the advice! There's 2 weeks between archery and rifle in Sawtooth and only about 500 archery tags, so the unit shouldn't be too busy. I didn't know that there was a second breeding cycle. That's definitely good to know. I'll plan on scouting in September and spending a few days in...

    Question about locating elk

So, after watching all of Randy's videos on youtube about elk, I've got a couple questions. He makes it clear that his recommendations are for finding herd bulls in each of the time periods. I'm curious what is different about finding cow herds and young bulls like spikes and raghorns during...

A couple pictures from a recent camping trip

The deer hung around my campsite all weekend and I got a good chance to follow her around the woods and take pictures. And I nearly hit one of the adult Mountain Goats as I came around a curve and it was standing in the road. Pulled off really quick and got some pictures of the the whole family.
