Howa 30-06 - too heavy for mountain hunting?
It may not be the weight of the rifle, but perhaps the way your carrying it. Try ditching the sling and using a gun bearer from Kifaru. I used one on my MR pack last fall for a hunt, that and a pair of trekking poles made a huge difference.- BuckFeverBob

Equipment: What worked and what did not
What worked the best: This HuntTalk Forum, and a borrowed pair of trekking poles. What worked great: Sitka Mountain pants and Jet Stream Jacket, onX App, Leupold RX1200i TBR ranger finder. What's undecided: Mystery Ranch Cabinet backpack, possibly due to a lack of a heavy load.- BuckFeverBob

I think even with taxes that seems like a great deal based on what I've seen the Timberlines priced at. I looked into the expertcity, but I don't think there's a group I could join. Thanks for your reply. The Mystery Ranch website mentions the Cabinet is based on the Crew Cab but redesigned for the hunter, and if I’m not mistaken does have a load shelve.
