It may not be the weight of the rifle, but perhaps the way your carrying it. Try ditching the sling and using a gun bearer from Kifaru.
I used one on my MR pack last fall for a hunt, that and a pair of trekking poles made a huge difference.
What worked the best: This HuntTalk Forum, and a borrowed pair of trekking poles.
What worked great: Sitka Mountain pants and Jet Stream Jacket, onX App, Leupold RX1200i TBR ranger finder.
What's undecided: Mystery Ranch Cabinet backpack, possibly due to a lack of a heavy load.
I was fortunate enough to draw a Nevada elk tag, so it only seems right to share a little info to the folks out here on Hunt Talk. Straight to the point…I did not harvest an elk, but I couldn’t have found a better place to spend a couple weeks in the fall. My crew and I spent 11 days driving...
Interesting. I just ordered a Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer for my Mystery Ranch pack and had the same question. The response I got back from Kifaru was to order the long wrap.
I think even with taxes that seems like a great deal based on what I've seen the Timberlines priced at. I looked into the expertcity, but I don't think there's a group I could join. I might be able to join Leoadventures. I'll have to investigate further. Do you know if they have Sitka's full...
I'd be interested to know what the actual price is for the Timberline pants Leoadventures is selling before I give them $25 to sign up. Is this something you can provide?
Thanks for your reply. The Mystery Ranch website mentions the Cabinet is based on the Crew Cab but redesigned for the hunter, and if I’m not mistaken does have a load shelve. I typically don’t carry a lot of gear when I’m hunting so the size of the Cabinet interests me. Plus, I’m usually...
Does anybody have any experience using this Cabinet day pack? Or could recommend a similar day pack.
I'm looking for a good quality day pack that could also double as a hauler of elk\deer quarters.

Received the official tag in the mail today. Of course my hunt is the mid season. Hope to have a successful hunt and share a story and pictures with you folks this fall. Congrats on your draw Elkdog.
I started a little over a month ago with the first pod cast. I'm about half way through the episodes, hope to get caught up soon. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you and your guests Randy, thanks.
