Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the issue of public lands. It is important for me to hear from folks in Iowa on policy matters such as this.
As you may know, federal lands make up only 0.3% of Iowa's total landmass--this figure is one of the lowest among the states. However, nationwide, the federal government owns roughly 28% of the 2.27 billion acres of land in the United States, much of which is concentrated in the West. For example, nearly 70% of the land in Alaska and Idaho is designated as federal land.
Our nation's public lands and National Parks are some of our greatest treasures, providing Americans with the opportunity to hunt, fish, hike, or simply observe nature and wildlife. Currently, federal land management agencies are struggling to properly maintain and manage these lands. For example, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS), the National Park Service has an approximately $12 billion maintenance backlog.
It is my firm belief that those who live and work on the land are the best suited to manage it. For this reason, during my time in the U.S. Senate, I have supported legislation that aims to increase state and local control over public lands.
Furthermore, conservation and natural resource development do not have to be mutually exclusive. I believe the United States can responsibly take advantage of its abundant natural resources while also emphasizing conservation.
Please know that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate continues to work on this issue. Feel free to contact my office with any further information, as I always enjoy hearing from Iowans.

Rep. Coffman has been sent an email this morning outlining my concerns related to the language in question seen on page 32 of HR5; Senator's Gardner and Bennet will also be receiving correspondence and I appreciate your insight regarding the Senate rules, Randy. It's also interesting to me that the 3 dissenting Republicans for HR5 all came from the midwest and east (Massie (KY), Amash (MI) and Jones (NC)).

When you have your friends and family join in, we grow our ranks exponentially. 20 people should be everybody's goal in terms of recruitment to the cause. That's your poker club, Trap league, fishing crew, golfing buddies & bible study.
The only way we win this is through a massive outpouring of support for public land.

Not sure if its completely honest but I rifle off emails to everyone in MN (where I grew up, using my parents address), everyone in SD (where I lived the last 6 years using my friends address), and everyone in CO where I currently live every time these morons try something new. They all received some very personal emails yesterday. I also make sure to thank the legislators that are fighting for public lands, they need to be acknowledged and thanked for their efforts.

Looking for some help on navigating the waters with the congress.gov website as I would like to be as informed as possible when I contact the representatives and senators.
When I did a search for this House Resolution 5 bill on the website for this legislative session. I came across the below info, including the text of the bill. I am struggling to find the language regarding revenue losses related to disposal of federal lands. If any of you can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also when I look at the section related to "actions" taken on the bill I see where it was introduced to the house on 1/3/17 and also referred to multiple committees on 1/3/17. I do not see where this bill was voted on and passed by the house. If I am not looking in the correct place, if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, I would like to see the actual votes by house representatives.
