I had a deer hide tanned hair-on last year at a local taxidermist. He charged something like $100, but talking to him most taxidermists just flesh out the hides and send it to a major commercial tannery. Looking at different company websites (just google "commercial tannery"), they accept hides from anyone and their prices are pretty darn cheap ($130 - $150 for elk, $50 for deer). I think this year I'll try fleshing it out myself and sending it to a place like this. I really like the taxidermist I used last year, but I've since moved or I'd give him my business again. Just an alternative for you folks. They do have long turn-around times though. Something like 4-5 months iirc.
