There is no need to mess with elk season as it is currently set.
Youth hunt should stay the same.
Deer season should open the same Saturday as it historically has, but close on 11/10 or thereabouts. Similar to the north side of the CMR.

MT general season always provides plenty of opportunity. Started building points years ago everywhere, and now sprinkling in 1 out-of-state solid hunt a year in addition to the occasional lightning strike tag.
Burned my UT pts last year on a Book Cliffs archery tag and picked up an archery elk...
I have to say the pre-hunt planning is as much fun as the actual hunt. That research led to an epic hunt in an area I found no intel on. Burning 14 points on an 11-12 point unit paid off on day 5. Public land DIY.
He was the 3rd biggest buck I saw on public for the trip, albeit 1 was for 3...
I hunted unit 1 for elk a few years ago during archery season. Could’ve killed bucks every day. Whitetails. Biggest was a 140 class. Get away from the truck and a guy could do well.
I was fortunate enough to harvest this bull a few days ago. Im off to the WY unit I burned max-1 on in a couple days, and then have a breaks rifle tag.
Best of luck to everyone.
I got into a herd of 150+ on public on 10/7, with 30+ bulls and one true 360+ monster. The elk were going crazy with their rut behavior. Bad wind and ran out of shooting light after passing on multiple 20-30 yd shots hoping for the big boy or one of the satellite 6's to come into range. That...
My brother ran into a big humpbacked grizz, 3 different times, in our spot in the Little Belts opening weekend. We had one in the same area back in '12.
Based on my CC charge, it looks like I lucked out on a random Book Cliffs bull elk tag in Utah, for the late hunt. I have 14 deer points, and plan on hitting the BC in the next couple of years on the archery hunt, but certainly wasn't expecting to pull a bull tag for another decade or more.
If...
I drew the tag a few years back. We had a fun hunt. I took this guy who netted after the drying period enough to win bragging rights from my hunting partners for biggest lope of the trip. It was 80-something. Don't remember the exact # offhand, as we only got them officially measured to...
Members,
A buddy and I are going to pull a WY elk tag in 2017. We have 1 less than max points. Looking at going guided, and prefer a backcountry hunt vs. a lodge-based hunt, but we can be convinced otherwise. Archery is definitely preferred. With the special elk price and cost of...
If anyone is willing to share some Intel for two guys with cow tags for the last 3 days of the season, I wouldn't complain.
I promise good karma and a favor owed in return, plus a return of any Intel I can offer.
Matt
I should add that I never saw a single hunter, other than an illegal motorcycle driver, off the road the entire time I hunted. Same with my brother. Lots of road hunters, but no one back in the boonies.
Probably true in most units, but that surprised me.
After looking over well over 100 bucks, a lot of which were dinks, my brother and I both tagged out the past two days.
Sunday morning my brother did a 7 mile loop to the south, and I did a loop about the same length to the north of the road we drove in on. I saw 13 bucks on that loop, and my...
