Tinder/Hinge/dating apps in general

i lost about $1.2 million in my divorce so haven't really wanted to jump back into the game.
There's also this. I did a pro-bono child custody battle one time and it was awful; took a year and a half to resolve and it didn't end well for anyone, particularly the kids. Was talking to a colleague yesterday about a couple paying their lawyers thousands of dollars to argue about who got the salt and pepper shakers... The salt and pepper shakers. No thanks.

Back to the apps: at least at my age that's the other thing. Most everyone has baggage, and taking that on just isn't that appealing.

@atlas I'm not sad about it anymore! I was a few years ago, but I'm quite okay with how everything is going. There's no recipe for life, and all-in-all it's pretty hard to complain.

My neighbor is single, ex military. Did tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fit and handsome. He piles up the ladies like stacking firewood. All 8's and 9's. The one he is dating now is nails. All from dating apps.

You do realize that is an awesome humblebrag factotum for an app profile...

When I was around 17 I dated my brother's ex-girlfriend. That lasted a few months and was great fun until I moved away. When she turned 19 she ran off with my dad, who was 39 at the time and drove an old Chevy Van. I asked dad about her strange attraction to our family, and he said "I guess she just likes Islander men." Was definitely true for her, and it didn't bother me a bit.
This has got to be post of the year. I don’t think anything can top it.

Back before the net there was Sweatheart magazine. In the late 80's my grandmother hired a older couple, the wife helped take care of her mother and the husband "Louie" did handyman jobs around the ranch. After my great grandmother passed, Louie kept working for us as he was extremely handy and reliable. It wasn't long though and his wife decided to leave. Louie who was about 65 at the time put a picture of himself holding a guitar and wearing a cowboy hat in Sweatheart magazine. I remember thinking, no way you are going to catch the eye of any woman. Louie was no looker, not even close. Boy was I wrong. The letters from lonely, older women started rolling in. At least a dozen a day. Louie ended up with a big upgrade over the wife that left him.

God bless Louie!!!!

I've accepted that, now in my mid 30s with a pretty slim dating pool, "cool uncle" is probably where my life is going. Moving to a bigger city just so I can find a partner simply isn't worth how good I have it. My current career, volunteerism, and the hunting, fishing, and skiing nearby are all great.

Even worse, with all my friends around me having toddlers, my standards for a partner are getting even higher. If I am going to raise kids, then I need someone I can work with.
Ye of little faith. Plenty of women out there in a situation to yours that would love to meet a guy like you, and probably some are in a small town. Most small towns, (and the people that live in them) are all the same. But every now and again you find a real gem of a small town, just like every now again you find a gem of a person living in one.

So what's the best app these days?
Depends what you're looking for.

My last dip into the online dating world showed the following:
  • Tinder, tons of matches, few responses, many bots, and lots of escorts that will only say so right before you agree to meet up for lunch. The worst of the worst, no more depressing place than tinder. You feel like a useless meat bag
  • Bumble, more often used in a big city, very few people on it in smaller cities
  • Hinge, the best right now. Lots of ways to sort people so you can avoid known issues. Can filter out has kids, age, education level, etc etc etc. Met my gf on here and most my single friends have met people on here

I met/married my wife 19 years ago on E harmony. She has threatened to divorce me a few different times, but so far she hasnt flew the coop. Anyone that has been married for a long time can see the various changes and challenges of being in a lifetime relationship. Hopefully we make it and meeting online was a good thing for us.

I've came to conclusion is we are all a little crazy at some point and everyone is different. For the single folks out there, there seems to be plenty of single/divorced people that are seriously looking for a mate, it just a matter giving up something.

Some of the craziest women I've ever met we were horse women, I'm not talking about the type that just love horses. Beware of crazy horse women single guys
