One year I'm going to hunt the black hills missed the whitetail tag last year with 4 points. Due to already having a full fall I applied for the any deer this year and unsurprisingly didn't draw. Still waiting for news on West river.

Hills whitetail for me and some NR family. Will draw an east river tag for sure, although it may be a doe tag. Could have had the muzzy tag this year, but am waiting until next year when I’ll have more time.

As a NR? You’ve needed 5+ pts for a while now. If a resident, you were just extremely unlucky with 3.

You don't need 5+ points to draw. Maybe to guarantee you draw but even then I don't think that's how SD system works. If it is a true bonus point system there's never a guarantee. This year of the 48 NR with 6 points only 42 drew the whitetail BH tag good odds but no guarantee. Also just over a quarter of NR with 3 points drew this year hell a handful drew with just 2 points.

I was stationed at Ellsworth and loved that tag, now as a NR, it sucks not to hunt there!

Although, I drew, as a NR, that tag three times in the first five years after leaving there!

Points only this year, since i drew an arizona elk tag. Should draw a prairie whitetail tag again next year.

Yeah you’re right. I was thinking more in more broad terms.
