North Dakota E2 cow elk hunt

My mom and sister both drew once in a lifetime cow elk tags in North Dakota unit E2. We have been out scouting 3 times and talked to a handful of landowners but either they drew elk tags or they already have people hunting. We haven't been able to find any on public land yet (kind of hard with my mom and my sister to hike in too far) but I was just wondering if anybody on here had any helpful tips or places to go that could help them out. We would really appreciate it, Thanks!

Needle in a haystack , just hunt hunt and keep hunting , you never know . I have heard from friends that deer hunt that area that they see good numbers of elk during the gun season most years . Early on it's slow but come October November they are feeding and more visible . However I'm guessing a lot of them will be on private
