I've been waiting for this hunt more than any others I've been on this year. My Nephew Armando drew a very good youth tag here in AZ. I wasn't able to scout a whole bunch due to other hunts and commitments.

I did make it out the weekend prior to the hunt, mostly I glassed up these guys.

I did get to take my family with me scouting. Kids by the campfire is always fun.

So today (12-17-10) was opening day. We were greeted by a nice sunrise.

Not long after the sun was up, the action started. There was a few misses at a buck of a lifetime, tough to watch. He pressed on and we saw this buck. He wanted to shoot, it's his tag and I wanted him to take whatever he wanted. He made a great 110yd shot with the muzzleloader. Here is the end result and Armando's first Mule Deer.

Grats to Armando and a great mentor - AZ!

Looks like it was an enjoyable outting with a nice + of a muley!

Are those wild burros in the one photo or is it an open range setting for some local rancher?

That's awesome! Congrats to Armando on getting what he was hoping for.

I'm a little jealous of the December hunting attire. Wait til you see what I was wearing today.
