Damn wish I could hold out till about Tuesday to arrive but with obligations I have I plan to arrive Sunday and have to head home Thursday evening. Should give me 5 full hunting days

Finally loosened my grip on my buddy's bullets tonight and let him send one down range..... did see some rutting activity today for sure, but this guy and another decent buck were bedded all by them selves right before dark. They weren't in a hurry to get up and go anywhere, even as the sun sank, so he let him have it in his bed.

Ha! No. It snowed earlier this week, then got sub zero, now highs in the upper 30s to 40s for the foreseeable forecast, with periods of drizzle/snow. Actually rained on me down there Wednesday. Muddy mess, at least around here.

You don’t need luck it’s the rut with a high powered rifle the deer will need more luck than the hunter. Have fun.

Peak breeding is going to happen right now. Observed rutting activity is more dependent on the weather. Cold and snowy the rut will be going crazy. Sunny and 60 and you will think you missed it.

IF you’re hunting The east side of Montana this week, then the mud will factor into your success more than the rut.

I had a real tough time getting on any good mule deer from sunday to Wednesday on public on the east side of Wyoming but managed to get a good whitetail

Congratulations 174! I have a bias towards mule deer, but that whitetail would have changed my mind quick.
