I am going to be going to Montana black bear hunting in a few weeks for the first time. I haven't picked a specific area yet but have it down to a couple areas. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to look for and what kind of stuff i should be glassing and just general bear hunting strategy!

Greenest open slopes you can find, which with an early spring this year should be in good abundance. Mostly N/NE/NW/E facing slopes seem to work best for me. Good luck.

If you can find good clearcuts/roads with green grass among thick timber, with water nearby there most likely will be bears in the area. At least in the western third of the state. The big bears don't usually hang out where they run into people so finding seclusion is typically key once the season is open and guys are getting out there.
