Great grouse opener

Hunted pretty hard for a few hours and jumped nine birds. Most birds I've flushed in one afternoon since moving to Montana. I've never seen birds so full of grasshoppers. Hopefully my luck continues into my elk hunt this weekend.

Yup. An old 16 gauge my dad gave me a few years back. It's the only shotgun I've got that I can shoot straight.

16gauge sweet, I had a 20 that was a fun little gun to shoot. Keep on huntin.

What kind of grouse are they?

Blue grouse (actually they're technically Dusky grouse due to a slight genetic difference from other populations).

Looks like a good day indeed.
I went berry picking yesterday and forgot to strap on a .22. Of course I could've filled my limit two or three times over.
Oh well.

Looking forward to this year. Grouse have been out and about - Hopefully the elk do the same.

I went out two times, actually to put our bear baits and was able to take 4 & 2 grouse. Five of them had berries in their craw and one was full of grasshoppers. I have noticed the population a little better this year than last.
