What's going on out there boys?

Feds stealing cattle

In the latest attempt to rub out the family farm, the Federal Government is targeting a rancher in Nevada by sending in armed agents, armored vehicles and low-lying helicopters to steal the ranchers cattle.

Cliven Bundy, who has been fighting the federal government’s attempts to shut him down for the last 20 years, is in a bitter battle that just took a turn for the worse. Over the weekend, armed federal agents from the Bureau of Land Management stormed Bundy’s land, stealing over 500 of the rancher’s cattle. The government claims the cattle were illegally grazing on government land; but Bundy, who has been a rancher all his life, says he’s been doing it this way for decades. In fact, his cattle are grazing on the same land that his father and father’s father used to raise their cattle.

I read a similar article online and the rancher came off sounding like a moron who refuses to pay for grazing rights. I didn't have much sympathy for him.

What's going on is some guy has not paid his grazing lease payments for about 20 years and is now pitching a big fit that by forcing the BLM into a corner and getting his arse handed to him in court, and he is about to lose his game of poker. His only remaining card to play is the public sympathy card via the media.

I have no sympathy for people who do not understand the rules. One does not have to like the rules, but if you want the benefits that come with getting to graze your animals on BLM land for the ridiculously low price of $1.35 per AUM, you need to accept that there are some rules you will need to follow. Paying that very low price according to the agreement you signed is probably not considered overly punitive.

His supposed theories of the rights he inherited since time began is a bunch of horse manure. If he wants to trace rights back to the first people supposedly using those lands, he might want to realize that those lands were being used for thousand and thousands of years prior to the arrival of him and his ancestors.

I suppose if he leased grazing rights from a private individual, he would not have to pay them either? I see no difference in the ignorance of his theories, no matter who owns the land. If you want the benefits of cheap grazing, then pay according to the terms that come with such. If you can't handle that, then get your cattle off the land you are leasing, whether public or private land.

Landlord says the house aint for rent anymore, you stay there for 20 more years, not paying rent, then cry foul when they've had enough and throw you out... Yeah, sounds like overreach to me. ;)

Smacks of those who refuse to pay income tax, asserting some government conspiracy and misinterpreting federal law to claim no legal basis for income tax.
When the feds come to take all their stuff, they really squawk and claim discrimination.

This guy's real claim to lineage has to do with longstanding "stupidity" to justify greed ... and ya just can't seem to breed out the "stupid" gene.

First thing we have to admit is that this guy is awesome. Just look at some his quotes:

"If people come to monkey with what's mine, I'll call the county sheriff. If that don't work, I'll gather my friends and kids and we'll try to stop it. I abide by all state laws. But I abide by almost zero federal laws."

Despite the court order, Bundy has refused to remove one head of cattle from BLM land. "At first I said, 'No,'" he told The Times last year. "Then I said, 'Hell, no.'"

“My ancestors created the rights to that land one hundred and some odd years ago,” Bailey Logue said. “And we’re not giving them up.”

“This is a lot bigger deal than just my cows,” Bundy told FoxNews.com. “It’s a statement for freedom and liberty and the Constitution.”

“They’ve been bringing men in and equipment and setting up a compound,” Bundy told FoxNews.com Monday. “They got helicopters flying low. They got snipers around the ranch.

“We’re not pointing guns at anyone, but we’re sure getting a lot of guns pointed at us,”

“We own this land,” he said, not the feds. He said he is willing to pay grazing fees but only to Clark County, not BLM.

“Years ago, I used to have 52 neighboring ranchers,” he said. “I’m the last man standing. How come? Because BLM regulated these people off the land and out of business.”

We've got a folk hero in the making on the order of Claude Dallas or Randy Weaver.

Ruby Ridge or Waco in the making? :D

"Sorry this is long but applicable here. By SHIREE BUNDY COX: I have had people ask me to explain my dad's stance on this BLM fight.
Here it is in as simple of terms as I can explain it. There is so much to it, but here it s in a nut shell. My great grandpa bought the rights to the Bunkerville allotment back in 1887 around there.

Then he sold them to my grandpa who then turned them over to my dad in 1972. These men bought and paid for their rights to the range and also built waters, fences and roads to assure the servival of their cattle, all with their own money, not with tax dollars. These rights to the land use is called preemptive rights. Some where down the line, to keep the cows from over grazing, came the bureau of land management.

They were supposed to assist the ranchers in the management of their ranges while the ranchers paid a yearly allotment which was to be use to pay the BLM wages and to help with repaires and improvements of the ranches. My dad did pay his grazing fees for years to the BLM until they were no longer using his fees to help him and to improve. Instead they began using these money's against the ranchers.

They bought all the rest of the ranchers in the area out with they're own grazing fees. When they offered to buy my dad out for a penence he said no thanks and then fired them because they weren't doing their job. He quit paying the BLM but, tried giving his grazing fees to the county, which they turned down. So my dad just went on running his ranch and making his own improvements with his own equipment and his own money, not taxes. In essence the BLM was managing my dad out of business.

Well when buying him out didn't work, they used the indangered species card. You've already heard about the desert tortis. Well that didn't work either, so then began the threats and the court orders, which my dad has proven to be unlawful for all these years. Now their desperate. It's come down to buying the brand inspector off and threatening the County Sheriff. Everything their doing at this point is illegal and totally against the constitution of the United States of America. Now you may be saying," how sad, but what does this have to do with me?" Well, I'll tell you. They will get rid of Cliven Bundy, the last man standing on the Bunkerville allotment and then they will close all the roads so no one can ever go on it again. Next, it's Utah's turn. Mark my words, Utah is next.

Then there's the issue of the cattle that are at this moment being stolen. See even if dad hasn't paid them, those cattle do belong to him. Regardless where they are they are my fathers property. His herd has been part of that range for over a hundred years, long before the BLM even exsisted. Now the Feds think they can just come in and remove them and sell them without a legal brand inspection or without my dad's signature on it. They think they can take them over two boarders, which is illegal, ask any trucker. Then they plan to take them to the Richfeild Aucion and sell them. All with our tax money. They have paid off the contract cowboys and the auction owner as well as the Nevada brand inspector with our tax dollars. See how slick they are?
Well, this is it in a nut shell. Thanks"

The problem, just like like immigration is that our government should have been enforcing the rules a long time ago....

I caught the Hannity interview with Bundy, last night on the tube. Right wing media's attempt to turn this guy into some kind of folk hero, is offensive. How's that for calling a spade a spade?

If Bundy would just show the Deed to this land he claims as part of his ranch or show where he got the grazing "rights" from it would all be good. His family didn't deem this land worthy enough to "own" it by getting it patented and deed to them and they never ever held a grazing right to these lands, they hold a permit. I wonder if he is paying the county the property taxes that would be due if he owned these lands?
