My youngest son arrowed a buck Sunday night. Recovered yesterday morning. It was his first arrowed buck byw and today is his 18th birthday. It is a poor antlered one but the one side looked like this. Was this genetics or just a injury?

Nut, Was the Buck hurt on the opposite side of the deformed Antler? I have read where if a Buck is hurt it will show up on the opposite side of an injury. John

I'm guessing it was an injury to the pedicle on that side. Congrats to the boy!

Thats definately an injury...probably a direct injury to the pedicle on that antler...maybe a hard hit or caught up on something early on causing it to grow downward.

Yeah, I'd guess an injury...you might be able to infer that the other side would have "issues" like the other if there were genetics involved. But then again, maybe not. The little guy probably got a little aggressive in velvet and jacked his antler.

Congrats on a great kill!

Injury, I'd guess a busted pedicle like others have. Mother nature doesn't always play nice.
