It isnt the size that matters, it is how great the country is.

This was caught after a 6 mile hike and at 10,450 ft. in the Wy. Beartooths.

The lake is right when the arrow is pointing.

We visited the Beartooths a couple of days ago.Took our canoe/gear out on Island Lake for a night and portaged in to Night lake, as well.Lots of little fish, brookies and rainbows.Unfortunately the Mosquitoes were relentless. We left a day early and headed for some awesome fishing on some lower mountain creeks.Rock creek and East Rosebud were lights out great fishing.

JCS--that looks like Gardner Lake to me. In 1980 a friend from Cody, WY and I took a little horse outfit up into that country for a week. Saw some mountain goats and caught numerous brook trout at Gardner Lake. I was young and tough in those days. Came back a couple or three more times by hiking in from the Beartooth highway. I used little Dardevle spoons and quickly caught a ten-fish limit. If anything, the trout were overpopulated in that lake--they needed more fishing pressure. Looks like they might be a bit bigger these days. Thanks for the great pictures, JCS!

Hem, here is a picture of both of the lakes you had your canoe on. Taken from up on the mountain.

Zulu-the lake I was at was above Island and Night lakes. I think I have been to all but a handful of the lakes in the Wyoming Beartooths. Only a few more years I will have gotten to them all.

JCS-

Yeah,we had visions of camping at Night Lake and hiking further in for a day,but my five yr.old was hammered with mosquito bites.: The head nets saved this portion of our trip.Seemed like there were bigger fish working the surface at Night Lake, and Island Lake had a million small fish cruising.
