Good morning,
After an unsuccessful bull elk hunt last year with my father, we are interested in trying to get some meat in the freezer this year. I talked to the MT FWP yesterday and they still have some left over cow tags for this season.

They are still available in 4-80, 411-80, 412-80, 422-80, 798-81 and 900-80. I was able to locate the 411, 412 and 422 on their website, but I am having difficulty finding the others (4-80, 798-81 and 900-80).

This year we are strictly looking to get some meat so I was wondering if anybody has a suggestion for which tag to get or which to avoid.

Thanks.

900-80 is a tag with bundled districts in Region 4,5, and 7, its good for about a dozen units. (If you go online and find the regulation book you'll find it under the hunting district regulations.) 04-80 is only valid on private lands in region 4. 798-81 is an archery only tag in unit 700.

As far as the other units, public access is difficult in 411, and I don't know anything about 412 and 422. Public access can be difficult in many of the bundled units of 900 as well as in unit 700.

With the access difficulties in those areas, you might have better luck buying a general non-res combo tag and hunting the areas that aren't special draw.
