Hi Guys

Hope this is ok.

A mate is looking to go to Alberta next year hunting.
Looking to hunt what ever he can.
Does he need to apply for tags or can he buy tags of the counter.

What should he be researching to hunt/what is there to hunt?

Look forward to your input.

Thanks
Alan

I take it your mate is from Scotland as well.......he will need an outfitter. Deer, moose, mountain lion, and bighorn is what Alberta is best known for hunting wise. Here's a link to a great guy I know from Alberta that could answer any questions you might have.

Good luck!

Non resident aliens can be hosted by a local from Alberta, which means you don’t need a guide. Might not work out but definitely worth looking into.

A good place to start is to read the hunting regulations.

http://albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs-pdfs-2017.html

The 2018 regs are not available for a little while, the 2017 will suffice for general information as no major changes have been made for 2018.

As a Non Resident Alien he can hunt small game and upland birds/waterfowl unguided.
Big game requires a guide, either a Resident Hunter Host or an Outfitter.

Without much greater detail in your friend's interest it just too much to expect people to cover all of the options in a forum setting.
