Cactus Buck?

Caught this guy on my cam, does he look to be a potential Cactus Buck?

I haven't seen him in person yet, but he looks much skinnier than the other deer in the area.

Cactus bucks never shed their velvet or antlers. Form what I understand, it usually happens from an injury to the "nad" area (castration), and they no longer produce the hormones that cause the antlers to harden or shed.
 
I know an old cowboy who claims he roped a spike elk, castrated it, and let it go. I'm not sure what that is suppose to do the the critters other than make them sterile. Anyone know if this makes them grow really big antlers?
