Bugling in June?

Has anyone ever heard elk bugling this time of year? I was working down by Gardiner this week and heard several different elk bugling. I have heard of young bulls half halfheartedly making noise but one bull kept bugling like it was the rut, and heard different one sound off a couple times.

One was in jelllystone, and another not too far out of the park on forrest. Are these just goofy park elk? or has anyone else experienced this?

My wife has told me about hearing them on pack trips in July and early August.

I had one bugle in June back in 1980. At least that's what I remember.

Somebody probably dropped a bottle of estrus urine out there and the bull was thinking with the wrong end

I remember hearing one in the summer once but think it was July....

Can't say I have ever heard them bugling this time of year. I am sure they communicate though.

Spent a lot of time 'among' the elk one summer in CO, and heard elk bugle 2-3 times a week pretty much from May-Aug. No really long drawn out bugles, but they'd whistle, and talk all the time. Course we'd see 500-1000 elk a day.

Elk talk year round, its just a whole other type of communication in the rut.

I've heard one raghorn in June everyone said I was high.

I grew up in that exact area (Mammoth Hot Springs/Gardiner) and I can't say that I have ever heard a June bugle. You found a goofy elk.
