.270 questions

I have a winchester model 70 .270 lightweight.
So I'm wondering what's the difference between lightweight and featherweight?
Does anyone have one and what do you shoot out of it? I just use the core lokt 150 grain and it seems to like them ok.
Also when were they made? The serial number is G1903XXX. I think the G means it is made post 1971 but am not entirely sure.

No it is a push feed.

I traded for a Model 70 awhile back and it loves Hornady 130-grain American Whitetail ammo. It also shoots the 150 Core Lokt well.

I love my Model 70 even if it is a bit heavy these days. I'm sure it was a true featherweight back in 1936 though.

My lightweight doesn't seem that lightweight. My grandfather gave it to me tho and just wanted to get some info about it.

My M70 likes 140 Partitions. I've been waiting to make the switch to an all copper bullet until I use the 200 Partitions I left which is a lifetime for this rifle.

Man I could talk about the .270 and especially the Winchester model 70 all day long ( currently own 3 of them and 6 in my lifetime). I have never met a model 70 270 that didn't like 49.5 of IMR4064 and 130's. 3000 FPS, easy on the shoulder, easy on brass, devastating on whitetails and antelope. I have hundreds of targets in the file cabinet from the past 23 years of shooting this combo exclusively ( rifle and load).

From my understanding, the Model 70 Sporter came with a 24" barrel, the Featherweight version had a 22" barrel, and a slightly lighter contour as well. That is the difference.
