2024 Proposed Rule Changes: https://wildlife.utah.gov/agendas-materials-minutes.html

Click on "Proposals: Share your feedback" to read and/or listen to the proposals. The big ones are:

  • Banning scopes on muzzleloaders (except where a muzzleloader will be used during an any legal weapon (ALW) hunt). Iron or peep sights only.
  • Four points or more on one side antler restrictions for the Pine Valley general season buck deer unit.
  • Vastly shorter seasons for the Beaver and Southwest Desert general season buck deer units (all weapon seasons will be impacted).
  • Weapon restrictions for the Mt. Dutton general season buck deer units (open/peep sights only on center-fire rifles).
  • Boulder/Kaiparowits unit - antler restriction, shorter seasons, weapon restriction for general season buck deer.
  • Change to the LOA permit allocations, transferability, etc.

The wildlife board meeting is today, and here are the key updates:

  • Scopes on muzzleloaders - Open sights, 1x powered scopes/red dots, peeps sights only. Reverting back to pre-2016 scope regulations for muzzleloaders.
  • All weapon, seasons, and/or antler restrictions for mule deer was tabled for further research/study by the mule deer committee.
