Calling Bears?
Wayne Carlton has a video on calling bears...it has more info in it than I can type up very fast. I have yet to call one in succesfully but will keep trying.- tazman

Depends on how bad y'all want the meat. If you are really looking to fill some freezers, then it might not hurt to have a couple extra cow tags, but iff the bulls are more important...save the money. Chances are, f you find a herd, you might be able to drop a cow at the same time as a bull. -

Do bonus points matter?
So I have always wondered this about the way MOntana does bonus points. Lets use the 380 tag as an example. So lets assume that 8,000 of the 10,000 people that apply all have ten bonus points. I am curious if there is a math genious out there in oyoa land that has done the math on how this... -

I think about 95% of the bears I have ever seen have been in the last hour of shooting light, and most of them in the last 30 min of light, so I almost always do evening hunts for bears. In the Big Belts I would go high and hunt some of the burnt areas from a few years back...especially if...- tazman

good luck to you too, zfountaine55....I thought he was being sarcastic. It is the only hard tag I have ever drawn as well, so I am excited for the season no matter what....it is giving me the motivation to hike some of those spots I have only ever glassed. And Nice BUCK Track1! -

ya, I realize that 180 would be the high end it seems...I have seen 160-170s some with kickers and I would be perfectly happy with that. -

Ya from hunting the unit for elk, and all the people I have talked to before..I am thinking 170- 180 ish is probably a decent goal. Not that I am overly concerned with score....In my opinion it's an above average tag with a decent chance at an above average buck and I am fine with that. It's... -

Wolf tracks
I have been driving through that area into the park for the last week for work and have seen way more elk around Big Sky than in the park so it makes sense that the wolves are there too....good luck with the bear hunting.- tazman

So everybody that I have ever talked to that has had the tag or talked to a bioligist says was told to try Ferry Lake....so I am pretty sure I will avoid that area just for that reason....although I bet most of them won't leave their truck or 4 wheeler. -

So I got lucky and drew the 312-50 tag. this is the first hard to get tag that I have ever drawn. Now it is time to do my homework. I have hunted this unit for elk and bear so I have a few ideas where to start for a nice buck, but I am in my networking phase of scouting and will take any info...
