As i've posted already, i bought a NEW (gasp!!!) Weatherby Mark V Weathermark LT.
Set up thus far has included an EGW one piece 20MOA base.
Vortex Viper low rings.
Burris Fullfield E1 scope with MOA reticle.
Mounted the base with a couple drops of the green Loctite usually used for bearing races under it. (Ensures no air gap)
Screws tightened to 20inlb with the Purple 222 Loctite.
Scope leveled & rings tightened to 18inlb with purple loctite.
Then i noticed it....
The lack of gap between the scope objective bell & the base.
Note, the 9 lug actions are LOOONG!
Along with any coresponding one piece bases!
Moved the scope about 1/8 inch forward. All i could get without interference to the magnification ring.
Loaded up some old (some have green corrosion) Hornady 162gr Competition bullets a friend gave me as they no longer shoot 7mm.
For powder, i used a middle charge of RL19.
This combo was used just for barrel break in.
Zeroed scope with first 3 single rounds between cleanings.
Decided for first group of 3 to try with just the thread protector.
OUCH!!
This baby's got some recoil!
But 3 rounds touching.
Screwed my $1,800 muzzle brake back on (the gun comes free with the purchase of the brake).
Next 3 rounds touching again. No POI change.
Got some medium Vortex Precission rings. Will mount today.
Next shooting, hopefully Sunday, will be ladder testing the 175gr ABLR over RL26.
Still haven't gotten the RL33 to try.
