I have a question for all you experienced elk hunters. Do elk continue to use wallows in late October?

I would say if you absolutely do not want to pack out an elk.

Sit on a wallow at the end of October.

I would say Dinkshooter is absolutely dead on with that advice.

Wallows get used the first couple weeks of September, once the rut nears the peak they rarely get touched.

I shot one last year 2nd season that had mud all over it like it had just used a wallow in SW Colorado. Not saying that the use them on a regular basis. I guess it also depends on how hot it is and if they want to keep the bugs off of them. He was only a 4 by so he may have been different than an bigger bull. Good luck. We are going 1st season.

I'd guess if it is hot, the flies are heavy and the rut is on then they will use wallows...but late in October....I'd go with Dinks advice.
