    Dad Joke thread

Woke up this morning to a murder of Crows flying East. I wondered aloud where they all were going. ML responded immediately "To the Crowbar".

Hunting Trip Ideas / 40th birthday

This is where you talk to a Hunt Booking Consultant. More than likely you are looking for a species that will be one-and-done, but within a budget constraint. Western Species will be landowner tags in UT, NM,CO, Outfitter allocated tags in ID, MT. PLM Elk hunts in CA run about $25K, but you...

    Tinder/Hinge/dating apps in general

It's like being on Linkedin in sales...The more contacts you have, the better chance of meeting someone interested in what you are selling. Every now and then you might get a referral. It's also how you let people know you are in the market. you don't know how many women you know might see...

    How close to camp?

I've ridden by camps on my way to where I've killed elk. I've also found a backpacker tent in the head of a drainage where I'd killed an elk. He probably could have watched me shoot it. Plenty of stories of deer and elk killed from camp or within view of camp. My rule of thumb is to camp...

    Muley Hunt Outfitter Help

From the camp manager I know I think that is a solid option. I’m basing it on his reputation and the fact that he’s been a repeat manager there for multiple seasons.

    Muley Hunt Outfitter Help

UT, NV, CO, NM all have landowner voucher systems. Seems like Hunting Fool is the clearinghouse for a lot of them. That may be your best bet for the options available. I've never done that but that's where I'd start.

    The Devil's Lettuce

I don't like to be around the substance. I don't like the way it smells, and I get irritated with folks who are visibly high. The issue for me though is that it becomes a lifestyle of escapism. People become less motivated when they frequently partake. They become Hedonistic to the...

    What are you currently reading?

Listened to this over a few long drives. Nice light "read/listen" he is the best narrator. This is a little heavier but instructional Audible has been a blessing in fitting "reading" into my day.

    CA Central Coast Elk Info

Many of those will require private land access. Fort Hunter Liggett is a military base so DIY is an option there. Your best bet in that region is to find an outfitter you like and apply on their recommendations. They may also try to sell you a PLM hunt which is the expensive express lane.

How long did it take for your first elk?

I got my first Elk tag in Idaho while attending college in the 90's. I can say I did not effectively hunt them. I did miss my first elk trotting through the timber in NE Oregon. I had a 8 year hiatus and killed my first elk with a bow called in by my buddy on day 3 of that hunt. In the 18...

I drew a once in a lifetime sheep tag at 25. Now what?

Dude you have a storyline of epic proportions. Pitch it to OnX, GOhunt, Eastman's, all the Influencer Bros, etc. ( ok I'm kidding about most of this) But...you do have a compelling setup to the story, and You might be surprised at the amount of help that will come your way. Just don't get...

    Tough year…new normal!

So I committed to just accompanying my father this year, no tag for me. I also committed to some financial discipline. I didn't apply for Utah points this year. In my point bracket, it is not going to be much of a difference at all when I apply in a year or two. I'm also considering whether...

Pick a state to become a resident ...

This is probably the most accurate post I've seen in what my reality is. Of course there is a big difference in Moving as a 20-30-40 or 50 + year old. I left CA as a teenager and spent my university years in Idaho. 8 years later I was back on the family ranch in CA. 5 years after that I...
