Typical range for elk?

I've got 2325 total yards shot for an average of 101.087, to be exact......................well close enough.

The terrain is the key. For years, my longest shot was a cow at 277 yards. THEN I started hunting the rim rocks of northern Wyoming last year. The game changed. The shot was 443 yards and was absolutely as close as we could get.
I think that in general, 200 yards appears to be pretty close to an overall average for most shots.

Mental math on this one puts my running average at around 250yds closest between 100-125 yds and the longest at 475 yds.

Closest was about 75 yards on out to one at 500. Average would be about 200 though.

I've hunted for elk since the 50's. So far it's 41 bulls with a 30-30, and 1 cow with a muzzleloader. All at under 100yds.

I seem to have got all my elk in the timber as well... my shortest was 40 yard bow kill and longest was 100 yard rifle... average is 66 yards. Not that I will not take a 400 yard shot if the situation comes up, but it hasn't...

Closest, was 8 yards(bow), longest rifle, 680. Longest bow 33, closest rifle 30.

I don't know how you guys remember such things. I would guess my rifle average to be 75yd or so.
