Tell me about your weatherproof cameras

It's Christmas and we're upgrading wifey's DSLR to a Canon t8i from at t7. Other than it's a grade above entry level use, another important feature is it's supposedly weatherproof. She's been using the t7 for quite a few years and has burned through two of them. Both due to exposure issues. I'm pretty sure the 1st time was due to salt and the beach, and another time it was in the back of the truck with it raining, even though it was bagged. Tell me about the camera you're using and it's durability.
