Here are a few pics of my son's bull he got last week.
We hunted hard for a week and saw elk everyday. Lots of cows and small bulls. We saw 7 big bulls but some were in places where it would have been nearly impossible to pack them out.
We snuck up on this bedded one which was in a group of 5 bulls. We got to within 20 yards and watched him for about 10 minutes sizing him up before my son decided to pass on him since it was only Wednesday.http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/attachment.php?attachmentid=50765&stc=1&d=1447868764
On Friday which was our last day of hunting we spotted this one a couple of miles from the truck. As we were moving towards him we kept losing sight of him as we were going up and down the hills through the trees. Every time we could see him we checked the range and finally got to 403 yards and could not move anymore without losing him.
My son was shooting the wife's Remington .270 using Federal Premium ammo with 150 grain Nosler Partitions. He rushed his first shot and missed but the bull stepped out broadside from behind a tree and the second shot hit the chest. When we went to where the bull was standing at the shot we found tracks but no blood. I told my son to follow the tracks in the snow and we found a single drop of bright red blood about 50 yards later. About 40 yards later we founf one more drop of blood and my son was worried he had made a bad shot. I told him the bull was hit in the lungs and it wouldn't go far. We found him maybe 200 yards later laying down and my son gave him a final shot.
The first shot with the Partition hit high in the lungs and when we opened him up it seems all the blood had stayed inside. There was full penetration and the bullet exited the far side even at that range.http://onyourownadventures.com/hunt...ent.php?attachmentid=50767&stc=1&d=1447869470http://onyourownadventures.com/hunt...47892539attachmentid=50769&stc=1&d=1447869575http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/attachment.php?attachmentid=50787&stc=1&d=1447892539
