Shot Placement?

For archery season next year im trying to get all my facts straight.. Im going to be chasing mule deer and elk next year and i would like to know where a good spot to poke an arrow into them is?(i want a clean ethical kill) Also if you have any other archer hunting tips let me know please! Thanks.

Sharp broadhead, and keep your shots close. If you can't hit a paper plate every time at any given distance after running a 50 yrd sprint, don't shoot.;)
 
archery tip : ensure you have your bow tools with ya. lots of walking and jostling and things may loosen up on your 1st hunt. practice a LOT!
tip / thought : shot should be close, and when you harvest an animal, be prepared and should be quick to quarter and care for meat in hot weather.
