San Juan Abajo help

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated for early deer and elk. I drew an archery deer tag but failed on the elk so I'll just get an OTC spike/cow tag. West out of Monticello or NW out of Blanding? Never hunted southern but just northern up by the gorge, North Slope. Not looking for any honey holes, just some basic info on what I might expect and whether to start high or low? Thanks in advance

Oh yes, forgot to mention that although everyone would like to kill a monster muley, this old timer would be happy with just a mature buck and even a yearling cow since I'll be packing it out by myself and in my mid 60's although in decent shape those 2 hour hikes uphill or packing even a mid size elk will take probably 4 or more trips depending on where it goes down. Thanks again
