Got lucky and drew a non-resident muzzleloader elk permit for unit 17 in New Mexico for the late hunt (Nov 18-22). Hearing reports of a very dry year and wondering if anyone has been out there this year and what they thought the water situation was like? Also looking for suggestions on wether or not to take an ATV or just stick to the 4x4 pickup as most of the unit has no roads. Would you start in the San Mateo mtns or the Magdalena mtns?
