New York Opener

This is my first ever spring turkey. The season opener here in NY was yesterday, 5/1. I spotted this guy 150 yards away sparring with another Jake at the edge of a hay field. I hit the hen call and he practically walked to me on a string. I couldn't believe it. I always used to wonder why people loved turkey hunting so much, but now I totally understand!

Totally addiction prone action, with hours of patient waiting. Congratulations of the first of many.

Jakes can act like a horny teenager, anything that vaguely seems like an option is pursued with abandon....... often with consequences not originally contemplated.

The addiction has definitely set in. I was at work all day thinking about how many years I wasted not hunting these suckers.

Turkey hunting can be the most exciting hunting that you can do...(on the east coast!), and the most boring.
Congratulations on your first of hopefully many birds.
