New 30-06. Thinking about trying copper.

I have a new 30-06 that I don’t have much ammo for. I’ve never shot copper bullets, so I thought this might be a good time to try some. I will be using this as an all around rifle for elk, deer, and pronghorn. Any recommendations on some factory ammo that I could try? What grain bullet would you suggest?

180g Nosler E-Tip took out the deer and pronghorn I took last year with one shot. Didn’t walk very far.

All I have ever shot through my .06 is 165g Federal Premium btsp. It's the one rifle I haven't played with copper.

I’d go no heavier than a 168 TTSX, but probably a 150 TTSX or something in the 130-150 range in a Hammer. You need speed with a mono

The 30-06 is new. I’ve been shooting a 7mm mag since I was 13 or 14. Both Southern cartridges though.

168 factory Barnes shoot near cloverleaf with boring consistency out of a cheap Savage for me. Everything I’ve shot with that combo died quickly.

Nope, it’s my dad’s early 80’s M70 Carbine.

7lbs scoped and a wood stock. Kicks like a mule, but it’s a family heirloom so I’m not changing a thing.

I’ve always used 180 gr nosler ammo accubonds or Federal trophy bonded, but this spring will experiment with sako blade 170 grain, and Federal Trophy copper 165 grain out of 22” and 24” barrels. The TTSX 150 grain also looks interesting.

I'll add another vote for the Barnes 150gr TTSX. I have been using it for several years with good results.

....and another for the 150 TTSX. The all-copper bullets need speed to help them open up. I've used that bullet for nearly two decades in my '06, and have taken a bunch of elk and deer with it.

I've been using the 168 gr TTSX with good results. According to their factory load data it is going plenty fast at 400 yards still.
